304 2B cold rolled stainless steel sheet

Grade 304 is the standard “18/8″ stainless; it is the most versatile and most widely used stainless steel, available in a wider range of products, forms and finishes than any other. It has excellent forming and welding characteristics. The balanced austenitic structure of Grade 304 enables it to be severely deep drawn without intermediate annealing, which has made this grade dominant in the manufacture of drawn stainless parts such as sinks, hollow-ware and saucepans. For these applications it is common to use special “304DDQ” (Deep Drawing Quality) variants. Grade 304 is readily brake or roll formed into a variety of components for applications in the industrial, architectural, and transportation fields. Grade 304 also has outstanding welding characteristics. Post-weld annealing is not required when welding thin sections.

Stainless Steel: 304 vs. 304L

The only difference between 304 steel and 304L steel is the carbon content of each grade. While all 304 stainless steel is low carbon, 304 has a roughly 0.04% higher carbon content maximum than 304L. For large weldments, 304L’s lower carbon content can help prevent possible corrosion caused by chromium depletion at high temperatures.

2B FINISH

2B is the most widely used stainless steel surface finish. It is especially common in industrial, chemical and food processing applications such as process vessels and tanks. It is also used in some architectural applications that will not be closely examined for uniformity of finish such as downpipes and gutters.

When specifying this finish think about these attributes:

1. 2B is the most economical finish.

2. It is highly corrosion resistant because it has been chemically pickled and is smooth

3. Over broad areas and between batches etc., it is not uniform and may not match in appearance

4. It has been produced in the mill and can’t be matched after fabrication

5. It if often protected by plastic films until final cleanup and commissioning
