254 SMO Nickel alloy steel
254 SMO(UNS S31254) is an austenitic stainless steel which due to its high molybdenum content possesses very high resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion. The metal was developed for use in halide-containing environments such as seawater. 254 SMO also shows good resistance to uniform corrosion and is superior to conventional stainless steels especially in acids containing halides.

254SMO alloy is a versatile material, can be applied in many industrial areas:
The pulp and paper bleaching equipment, such as pulp cooking, bleaching equipment, washing filters used in the barrel and cylinder pressure roll.
Power plant flue gas desulfurization equipment, primarily used parts are: the absorption tower, flue, stall doors, trim, spray systems.
The sea water treatment systems or as power plants using sea water to cool the thin-walled Condenser, desalination equipment, even in the water may not flow in the device can also be used.
Desalination industries, such as salt or desalination equipment.
A heat exchanger, particularly in chlorine ion exchanger in the work environment.

254 SMO Nickel alloy hot Working
Hot working should be carried out in the temperature range 1000-1200C. Higher temperatures will reduce the workability. Fairly heavy scaling occurs at tempertaures exceeding 1150C.
To ensure dissolution of possible precipitations of secondary phases from the hot forming, the subsequent heat treatment should take place at minimum 1150C.
254 SMO Nickel alloy cold Working
254 SMO possesses very good cold formability. Bending, pressing and other forming operations which are used in fabrication can be carried out without difficulty. Practical experience obtained from the pressing of heat exchanger plates has been very favourable. The steel work hardens rapidly.
